Why You Should Attend

The Geekettes are organizing their first European Demo Day on June 6th, 2014. The event, in cooperation with 500 Startups and sponsored by Google & Hub:raum, aims to support more women in their investment pitch training and to eventually fund more female-led startups. 10 startup founders will be selected after our screening process and will be given the exciting opportunity of pitching in front of a room of VCs, angels and investors. The event is open to the public; however seats are limited.

Message of Greeting

by Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, for Geekettes Demo Day

Women win in the classroom, but struggle in the boardroom?
– The
Geekettes DEMO DAY demonstrates precisely the opposite.

Women take the initiative and create their own businesses. They are founders. Builders. Visionaries. And eager to use high-tech to help shape our future.

As Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy I strongly support the Geekettes DEMO DAY. Not only does this event give women a platform to present their visions and business concepts – it also brings them together with venture capitalists, business angels and investors.

Financing is essential – visions and ideas will not become marketable goods and services without financial backing. Studies prove that the percentage of early-stage equity financing to women-led businesses is still small. This means that a lot of women’s solutions for the challenges facing the whole of society are nipped in the bud.

Clearly, we need to improve women’s access to finance to tap their full potential. Their intellectual and economic contributions are crucial for Germany’s economic growth. I therefore call upon investors and the financial sector to open their eyes to good, marketable ideas and innovations from women, and to give women-led companies equal opportunities.

We can make a start on this today at the Geekettes DEMO DAY. I am sure it won’t be the last such event, and hope it will spark off many other initiatives.

I wish everyone a successful event! Get inspired!

Yours truly,

Confirmed VCs, Angels and Accelerators
