The Berlin Geekettes did something pretty amazing. Not only did they put on the first all-women Hackathon here in Berlin, but they also demystified the Hackathon format for a number of talented and motivated women and hopefully opened the door for increased female participation in the tech scene here in Berlin. Sweet!

A few weeks ago I has the pleasure of attending my very first Berlin Geekette event, a Service Design Workshop given by the enthusiastic and knowledgeable Louisa Heinrich. I didn’t know what Service Design was but the topic sounded interesting, so I decided to go. Service Design has now become my philosophy! And I intend to tell everyone I meet what it can do for their startup. While I gained a lot of fantastic knowledge, this wasn’t the only benefit of the workshop. I also found inspiration and courage to found my own startup.

This past weekend, the Berlin Geekettes team together with the women engineers of SoundCloud not only organized the first Berlin Geekettes hackathon but also what we believe to be the very first all-women hackathon in Germany. So, now that everyone returned home and the last bit of post-hackathon details have been taken care of, we had a minute to reflect on what just happened. And to sum up: we are blown away.
